Cancún is situated in the state of Quintana Roo, along the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It is part of the easternmost region known as the Riviera Maya, which stretches along the Caribbean Sea. Along the ocean, there are many resort options that range in different prices and different experiences. In 2022, Marriott opened their Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun resort that is part of their Autograph collection. Located only 35 minutes from the Cancun International airport, their rooms and amenities allow for the best vacation imaginable. The resort offers the option of being a part of the Diamond club as well which provides access to even more amenities. Come along to check out this Cancun resort!

The Accommodations

View from our balcony
Chilling in our friend’s swimout

A great part of this resort is the many different room options available. We went with a group of friends and had the opportunity to explore the different options. They include studio style suites as well as one and two bedroom options. Each of these options also comes with a Diamond Club option.

  • Junior Suite
  • Junior Suite with Terrace Jacuzzi – this is the option we chose, we had beach front but it was actually in the middle of the resort looking out towards the beach with a swim out pool below us.
  • Junior Suite with Swim Out – there are multiple swim out options in the resort, so it may be helpful to discuss which option you prefer.
  • Junior Suite Two Bedroom
  • Presidential One Bedroom Suite

The Amenities

The hobi cat

The best part of this resort is the amount of things there is to do here!

  • Many pools and Waterpark with 14 huge water slides, two lazy rivers, and massive kids area
  • Gaming Center (trampoline park, bowling, and laser tag $$)
  • Tennis Court and Volleyball
  • Outdoor Theater
  • Fully equipped gym with multiple class options (yoga, abs, etc)
  • Beach activities like kayaking and other water sports
  • Full Spa experience
  • Clubhouse for kids with supervision

Food and Drinks

Dinner at the Cave.

This was easily Ross’s favorite part of this trip. We didn’t get to tryout every restaurant while there (as there are waaay too many) but the ones we did try we really enjoyed!!!

  • 12 full restaurants
  • Full Buffet for all meals
  • Multiple food trucks and grab and go spots (including for ice cream and gelato)
  • 10 bars – includes multiple pool swim up options

***My top two favorites were the opera cakes at the cafe and the cinnamon pineapple at the Brazilian restaurant.

Our Review of Our Resort

Stay

We went to this Cancun resort to meet up with some friends to celebrate a birthday! Our group was around 10 people and it was a blast! We stayed in the Junior Suite with Terrace Jacuzzi. It was on the 7th floor and considered “Ocean Front.” We thought we would be facing only out the beach, but we actually were facing towards the resort with the ocean beyond. The floor below us had a swim out so our terrace was overlooking their pool area. The room also had a bath tub in the very center of the room. The shower had two shower heads that each had their own temperature setting! The bathroom had an odd set up as it was hard to get into and out of. In the regular junior suite, this was not the case.

The Positives

Ross absolutely loved the food! We got to try about 5 of the restaurants and many of the smaller spots. Definitely go in hungry. I cannot recommend enough popping over to the food truck and getting an afternoon quesadilla by the pool. Each restaurant offered delicious desserts as well. Completely worth it! We found that the best bar was going to the lobby bar. They made the best drinks and the bartenders were so kind. Each morning we went to the café to get coffees and sweet treats. By the buffet doors, they often had a small bar with mimosas and bloody mary’s.

The water park was great! We went on tons of slides and spent time in the lazy rivers. The slides have tubes to slide on and a lot of them required two people per tube. I prefer the tubes so this was fun for me. We also took out one of the hobie cats they offered from the resort. It is a little hard to find, but if you go down to the beach and go all the way to the north end you can reserve it.

We had a couple of friends who did the Diamond Club option. This allowed them to have their own butler who helped make dinner reservations and bring drinks to their swim out rooms. The drink access was also increased to more expensive, fancy brands. They also had access to the Diamond Club room.

Resort Recommendations

  1. Bring your own floaty – there aren’t a lot in the lazy rivers and they are also great to use in the other pools.
  2. Bring your own large tumbler – we do this anytime we go to a resort because you can take it with you out to the beach easier and with a larger cup you have to go to the bar fewer times.
  3. Pack hydration packets – we each had one every night and this was so helpful after drinking and being in the sun. I like these – Hydration Powder Singles.
  4. Pack the obvious – hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. The sun is no joke out there and I was warm just walking from one pool to another.
  5. Reserve your chairs early in the morning – walk to the pool bright and early and plop some t-shirts on a few chairs to reserve them. We did this everyday and it is so worth it! We also never worried about losing our stuff because it felt safe each time. (I still wouldn’t leave your wallet or anything right there all day but a few shirts was fine).

Get Away from the Resort in

Cancun

Every time we go to Cancun, we try to do a different activity leaving the resort. This time, we swam with whale sharks! It was the absolute coolest experience! They picked us up from the resort, give you gear, and help you be safe and respectful while swimming with the biggest fish in the ocean! If you are interested in going on an exploration, there are some links listed below! Keep an eye out for that post to come out next! In the past we have done Chichen Itza (link below) and the MUSA Underwater museum. I would recommend doing these about halfway through your resort trip. It is a nice way to reset and help you enjoy the second half of your stay even more!

Hopefully this info was helpful. If you have been to Cancun, what is your favorite area? Let us know!
