Cancun is a popular tourist destination located on the northeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. We chose to go for New Year’s to get out of the Midwest winter and enjoy some sunshine at an amazing luxury resort in Cancun. This was the first stop of our adventure, the second stop was Isla Mujeres. We decided to stay at the Dreams Sapphire Resort and Spa. The entire resort has an open air vibe with beautiful architecture and plants throughout the entire resort.

Luxury All inclusive

Food and Drinks

  • 5 Restaurants (Asian, Italian, French, Mexican, and Grill)
  • A buffet and outdoor grill by the main pool
  • Café that serves sweet treats and coffee all day long
  • Multiple bars throughout including in the lobby and a swim up in the main pool

  • Fitness Center
  • Spa
  • Kids area that had archery and a rock climbing wall
  • Explorer’s Club Daycare for younger kids with planned activities and a Teen Zone with games for older kids
  • Daily activities like bracelet making (yes, we made matching friendship bracelets!)
  • Outdoor games including a massive chess board and shuffleboard
  • Water activities including mini sail boats and kayaks
  • 2 pools, one big main one that had activities like bingo and water aerobics and the second one had the 3 water slides

The Best Parts of a

Luxury Cancun Resort

Our favorite part of this resort was the amount of entertainment that was offered. The first night there was a magic show that I got to partake in and another was a concert where they dressed up while dancing to a variety of different styles of music. There was entertainment most days by the pool including some acrobats that performed impressive tricks. The area by the pool was always high energy with music and dancing. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

New Year’s Night

at the Resort

The most amazing part of this resort was the night of the new year’s celebration. They had an entire party full of lights and dancing. There were performances by belly dancers, acrobats, a hair hanging performer, and many characters dressed up from Aladdin. They went all out for the party which was great because you could tell how much everyone was enjoying themselves. They passed around champagne and we got to toast at midnight with the countdown.

The Negatives and

Tips for Next Time

Though we loved many parts of this resort, there were a couple not great parts. The main one would be the restaurants and food. Overall, we were not impressed. Multiple of the restaurants required reservations ahead of time and had dress codes. A couple were closed throughout our stay there. This could have had to do with the New Year’s celebration but we are unsure. There were a couple nights in a row where we ended up eating at the buffet which wasn’t very good food. The drinks also all seemed to be watered down. We highly recommend bringing your own larger, reusable cup. This is great for getting one big drink instead of going back multiple times. It also is great because you can get your drink and take it out to the beach with you.

On our next trip we plan to schedule a pick up from the airport to the resort. We hadn’t been aware that not doing so would result in the ridiculous headache of trying to get a taxi and waiting a very long time to get picked up.
