In our last post, we talked about the amazing landmarks in London that are must-sees but also are seen by everyone. Are you looking to have an experience that few tourists get? Here is a creative list of hidden gems in London that will separate your experience from everyone else!
1. Bunga Bunga in Covent Garden
This is an adult experience that requires a reservation ahead of time. They provide a set menu and different shows based on the evening or brunch. We attended the Friday night Variety Show. The food was delicious and the show was super interactive. The entire vibe is creative and eclectic based on an Italian atmosphere. The drinks came in fun cups (or from a statue, ask if you are really curious but it is NSFW) and everyone was encouraged to participate by learning a dance and doing it multiple times throughout the evening. We participated in a competition and won free drinks by stacking pizza boxes on Ross’s head! There was lyra, silks, burlesque, singing, comedy, and more! The set price was £40 with drinks being £15 or so.
2. Get a poem written just for you
in the Borough
A man sits near the river in the Borough with a type writer. For whatever you choose to pay, he will write you a small poem about any topic of your choosing. I chose “being in love and adventure.” Within 2 minutes he handed me the small sheet of paper and I passed him some coins. It was the most beautiful poem and I may have cried. This was the best souvenir of any trip thus far.
If you plan to be in this area, this is also where Shakespeare’s Globe (the new one) is located. Plan to arrive a bit earlier in the afternoon if you hope to do a tour.
3. Afternoon Tea Bus
When I tell you how sad I was that I didn’t know this existed before we arrived. This was not something we got to do but wish we could have as we only saw the buses on our last day there. Each bus was decorated in adorable pastels and takes you around London. This is such a unique, different experience compared to going to a regular tea time in London. Here is a link for one with great reviews – Afternoon Tea Bus in London. In terms of price, afternoon tea can be expensive throughout London. This is a great way to get the experience in a unique way and explore the city.
4. Incognito Bar in Kensington
This was also on our list but due to it’s location we were unable to go this time. This bar has an extremely eccentric inside and the drinks are even cooler! Though it is more pricey, the drinks and experience make it well worth it! This is a great spot to get creative insta photos as well.
5. Barbican Conservatory
This gorgeous and large conservatory is on the 3rd level of the Barbican Centre. It is free to enter and a great chance to get out of the city atmosphere. The centre has tons of other activities like kids areas, coffee shops, bars, and art galleries. It is easy to get lost in the center with many different levels to wander around. It is recommended to call ahead of time or check their website before visiting. They do many different events and at times this leads to the conservatory being closed to visitors.
