Beach days in Sentosa, Singapore are a very different experience from visiting any of the other parts of the city. We make a point of getting out of the city whenever possible and a beach day is the perfect way to do it! So if you are working on trip planning to Singapore don’t forget to leave a day for visiting the beach and playing in the sunshine!

Sentosa Island is located off the southern coast of Singapore. The island has different resorts, themed attractions, and of course beaches. It is easily accessible by taking the Sentosa Express, a monorail that takes about 10 minutes to go from mainland to the island. It costs around $4 to take the monorail to get there. It is free to ride back (even if you took different transportation to get there). We found this to be really accessible. There are three top beaches that we visited and our recommendations for each.

Blow up Play area in the water at Palawan Beach

The middle of the three main beaches is Palawan beach. This is a perfect spot if you have kids because there is a big inflatable play area in the water. This is also where the southernmost point of continental Asia resides. If you peek at the photo above there are small canopies on the further island. This is where you cross a walking bridge to reach the southernmost point. Be prepared to take the stairs to get to the top. There is a small island that you take a bridge across to reach. The beach clubs in this area were also geared more towards kids with multiple water slides and play areas.

Our favorite is the Tanjong beach. Not only is there fewer shops and restaurants, the water was perfect for swimming conditions. There is a smaller island that you can easily swim out to as well. With one beach club area, there was less hustle and bustle going on. Many people had their dogs playing in the water with them.

Siloso beach with view of water

Siloso beach is perfect for adults who are interested in partying and adrenaline! Skypark is located on this beach with their famous bungy jump and giant swing. There are tons of beach clubs located here that boast loud music, good food, and great drinks. A lifeguard is on duty in this area to help you feel safe while swimming. This is also a great spot to rent a SUP or a kayak from one of the multiple shops. Our only negative review of this area is the cargo boats park out in the water and disrupt the view. Overall this was a very clean beach with multiple activities.

The island is also where you can find Universal Studios, resorts, a casino, and an aquarium. If you have younger kids, this is a great place to spend a few days exploring. For adults there is a golf club, many beach clubs, and spas. Since the island is relatively small, it is easy to get around by walking. There are also a few trams and it is possible to rent bicycles. This makes it very accessible to explore all the hidden gems!

  • Wear sunscreen. It is hot and there is minimal shade if you are not at the beach clubs.
  • Sunglasses and hat. Same as above, minimal shade.
  • Swim at your own risk. Two of the three did not have lifeguards.
  • Wear good sandals for walking. It is easy to walk between the beaches but do be prepared to be walking for at least 15 minutes.
  • Bring a towel and swimsuit.
  • Pack snacks. If you want to save money, pack some snacks and water to avoid paying higher costs at the beach clubs.

Visiting a city does not always mean having to stay in the city. We hope you love this beach day in Singapore as much as we did! Drop us a comment with any questions or recommendations you have!
