Staying at The W Maldives with Marriott will be the ultimate honeymoon experience of relaxation and play to start your new marriage. Let’s jump into all the juicy details of why to plan your stay here!
The Bungalows
Maldives is well-known for their overwater bungalows and The W is no exception. They provide a variety of options that can fit into different budget:
- Overwater ocean view with private pool
- Overwater lagoon view with private pool and hammock
- Beach Oasis with private pool, beachfront, and second floor balcony
- Overwater 2 bedroom with private pool
We had the overwater ocean view with private pool. We really liked this one because it faced away from the island. This means that when people are swimming on the beach or kayaking, they are not right at our back door. This also provided us with the perfect view of watching the sea planes land and take off! The sea planes are loud but they wait until a bit later in the day to land so it does not disrupt sleep.
Every day our room was cleaned with new towels and the reusable glass water bottles were replaced. There is a mini fridge with snacks and drinks for an extra cost. Inside the room is a floor window where you can watch for fish. There is also a speaker in the room with bluetooth that is loud enough to hear on your balcony.

The Restaurants
When booking your visit to The W Maldives, there are different food options. There is a half board or full board. Half-board included breakfast and dinner each day. Full-board includes 3 meals a day with drinks. There is a variety of restaurants to choose from so here is what you need to know:
- The Kitchen – this is where the breakfast buffet is held and it supplies the food for a few other restaurants that are close to it in the afternoons.
- Fish – a partially overwater restaurant with a focus on seafood.
- Fire – set in the jungle with firepits all around, expect to get amazing grilled steak here.
- Sip – a bar with fun seating to watch the sunset.
- Wet – restaurant and poolside bar.
- Kada – pop up restaurant that is on the beach near the pool. **Hot Tip: since it is a pop up, check upon arrival to ensure you don’t miss this opportunity!**
Depending on how busy the resort is, you may need to reserve a table for dinner. To do this, you’ll message the resort staff via WhatsApp. We did the half-board and did not find it to be an issue. Often eating breakfast a little late and then we had packed some snacks for afternoons. The food portions are huge and delicious! Every meal was amazing. My favorite was fire because of the variety platter we got with the delicious olive oil bread.
Activities on the
Maldives Island
If your goal is to never stop moving during your visit, that is completely achievable. The Down Under Dive Center can provide you with snorkeling gear to use for free throughout your stay. They ensure it all fits well and provide a bag for carrying it. Other free options include stand up paddle board and kayaking. Each can be rented for 1 hour a day. For an extra cost there is a glass bottom kayak as well. If you are looking for even more of an adrenaline activity (and don’t mind the cost) here is a list of other options:
- Jet Ski
- ESCAPE private yacht exploration
- Paragliding
- Seabob
- Wind Surfing
- Fishing
- Scuba Diving
Each of these activities has different price points depending on time spent and if you need a training session or not. All of the gear is in great condition and the staff are very knowledgeable. If you plan to snorkel, they will provide info on the best areas to snorkel in. We got to see a sea turtle up close, small sharks, and a million gorgeous fish!
If you are tired of the water, head back to the pool area. Upstairs next to the gym there is a pool table and an office area. Down at the bar are multiple games including scrabble, chess, and giant Jenga. This is a great place to hangout and sip a drink before dinner.
Exercise Activities
Make sure to get a quick workout in at Fit before heading to the beach! The gym is centrally located and has a decent amount of equipment. There are towels, apples, and water provided at the gym. If you would rather take a class, there is beach sunset yoga that was great for beginners to enjoy. There is also boxing classes and core classes for a more intense experience! If you plan to attend, just send a message to the staff and they will ensure you have a spot.
Extras at The W Maldives
How could there be even more you ask? Picture after a day of relaxing on the beach you head out to an overwater spa to get a dreamy massage. The end to a perfect day! The spa has a variety of options to choose from. Other extras include getting a floating breakfast tray to your room, sunset dinners, and other room decorations. They also have a private island (!!!) where you can go for dinner or to stay overnight. Don’t worry if you didn’t pack enough, they have laundry onsite as well. Or if you run out of sunscreen, just pop into the shop to grab some more along with a souvenir!
One of the most fun things we did was a photoshoot on the island! For free they will take you around the island and snap a ton of photos! Then you get to choose one to be printed to take home with you. If you can’t choose just one, there are a variety of options for photo albums and digital downloads.

The Good and The Bad
There were so many things we loved that we would move here in a heart beat. But each situation has a little bit of bad so here it goes, the good and the bad.
The Good
- Excellent service from the staff.
- Beautiful, clean water with a variety of activity options.
- Delicious food.
- Extremely relaxing.
The Bad
- It rained everyday for at least an hour. The outdoor seating was cushions so we never got to sit at the fun outdoor table.
- The Sea Plane is very expensive and they are pretty loud depending on where your room is located. Fun to watch but can be disruptive.
- The excursions are expensive so if you plan to spend a decent stint there, consider if this fits into your budget to do the extras.
