Food in Singapore should always be an adventure. From a variety of food options and styles, it’s possible to find something everyone will like. There is also a wide variety in price so it is easy to stay within budget or splurge on a more expensive meal. These were some of our favorite spots to eat while visiting Singapore!

Entrance for Maxwell Food Centre in Singapore

The Maxwell Food Centre is set up similar to a food court in a mall. It is a big enclosed pavilion with seating throughout the middle aisles. Along the edges are the different food stalls. We highly recommend getting food from a few different stalls to try a variety of Singapore food. It is well known for Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice, a Michelin star rated food stall. We arrived early in the evening and they were already sold out so if you plan to visit that stall, arrive very early. One thing to note is that most of the stalls sell either food or drink but not both. So you likely will need to pop over to a couple of stalls.

Restaurant table with hot plate in the center for cooking

Craving Chinese food? Head over to Liang Seah Street. The entire street is lined with Chinese restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating. The tables were all set up with the small stoves in the center for cooking your own food. These restaurants were a bit on the more expensive side. If you are looking for a quick meal, this probably isn’t the place for it. According to the website, the street has road closures on the weekend so you can walk easily down the street.

A more local experience can be found on Lau Pa Sat, also referred to as Satay Street. One side of the entrance to the food stalls look like a more high end Maxwell Food Centre. If you walk to the back and out the other side there is a street lined with tables and people grilling satay. This is another spot we recommend trying food from multiple stalls. It’s possible to snag a variety of grilled meats here. We chose to stick to chicken. The vendors will really encourage you to buy from them so take your time deciding who has the best offer before ordering.

There is a large variety of foods from Mexican to Greek to Italian. This is a great spot for finding a bar as well. Make sure to visit the shops and explore the eclectic art in this area too!
