How to Spend a Unique Day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur is the capital and largest city in Malaysia. It’s easily possible to find a variety of activities for tourists and those who are more adventurous! There is a wide variety of cuisines and cultural experiences throughout the city. Transportation is easily accessible utilizing Grab (similar to a taxi or Uber) or utilizing the train and bus systems. It is recommended to spend between 3-5 days here to see everything Kuala Lumpur has to offer. In those few days, here is a great list of things to do!

Temple Hopping in Kuala Lumpur

Thean Hou Temple
Batu Caves Temple
State Mosque

Being in South East Asia means temple hopping in every city. Kuala Lumpur is no different. There are three highly recommended temples in this area. The first is of course Batu Caves. Known for the rainbow staircase going up to the cave, this is a great photo spot. We loved that the location in the cave provides a different experience compared to other temples. The second is Thean Hou Temple. It is the temple dedicated to the Chinese Sea Goddess. We highly recommend visiting in the evening when the temple is lit up with the string lights. The last one is the Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, or called the State Mosque. They provide guided tours for free.

***Hot Tip: Always dress appropriately when visiting temples and check ahead of time if legs need to be covered. Many temples will turn you away if not dressed appropriately.***

Perdana Botanical Gardens

If you’re looking to get into nature by a paved path, this spot is perfect! Adults and kids alike can enjoy strolling through this massive garden and stopping by the different play areas. A few of the most well known spots here are the sunken garden, the Perdana canopy, and the bamboo playhouse. There are a few small shops that have snacks and ice cream. There are also maps throughout making it super easy to explore the whole area. Many of the signs are informational and provide tons of knowledge about the natural area.

Forest Eco Park

Have you seen the photos of the canopy walk in Kuala Lumpur and wondered where it was located? This is it! The Forest Eco Park spans over 9 hectares has multiple walking trails that are mostly well paved. Upon entering if you stay to the left, it is easy to get to the canopy walk. It is worth noting there are multiple sets of stairs throughout the walk and throughout the rest of the park. The forest area is a great way to feel like you’ve taken a step outside of the city without the drive! After the canopy walk we recommend visiting the bamboo area. Beware of the monkeys and the insects. Wear insect repellent!

Helipad Lounge Rooftop Bar

After a long day of exploring, it’s time to take a chill evening at a rooftop bar. The Helipad Lounge is super unique with the decor and of course being located on a helicopter pad 30 floors up! The views are stunning and the perfect place to watch the sunset. The drinks are average price. They also have yummy food. We got the pizza and enjoyed it. There is a downstairs area inside as well if that is your preference. We booked ahead of time. This cost 200 RM per person and came with two drinks.
