A half moon generally refers to the lunar phase where the Moon appears as a semicircle in the sky. When you are in Koh Phangan, it refers to when Harmony Beach Club hosts a really fun party! Most people are have heard of the full moon parties that Koh Phangan are famous for on Haad Rin Beach. When planning your trip to Thailand it may not be possible to be on island during the full moon. Instead you can check out the half moon parties that are hosted each month as well. Here is your quick guide to celebrating at the half moon party in Koh Phangan.
When is the half moon party?
As the name implies, the party happens during the half moon. Sometimes it continues over the course of two days. It generally occurs at least 2x during a month. I snagged this photo from their website regarding the 2026 schedule. Here is a quick link to the schedule from Harmony Beach Club website.
Where is Harmony Beach Club?
The beach club is located on the southern and slightly west side of Koh Phangan. It is a really great location regarding easily accessible. It’s super easy to find and there’s tons of shops and accommodation nearby. Sometimes the second night of the party is at the Half Moon Magic Forest.
Half Moon Party Details
The first important factor is what ticket you are interested in buying. If you are able to order online ahead of time there is a discounted price. All of the tickets come with different benefits. In general these things are always included:
- General Admission (1 or 2 nights worth)
- 1-2 Drinks (1 if one night and 2 for two nights)
- 1 hand fan
- 1 lanyard
- Body Glitter
There are options for VIP that can include UV paint, t-shirt, and a towel along with the other items already mentioned. Prices vary dependent on these factors:
- GA or VIP
- Number of people in your group
- 1 night vs 2 nights
Don’t fret if you chose to stay on Koh Samui instead of Koh Phangan. There is a speedboat package that will take you from one island to the other for the party that includes the taxi to and from the party.

Getting Funky
There is no judgement on what you like to do while partying. The free drink can be a mixed drink or a beer. They are also well known for the bucket drinks. This consists of 4 shots of your choice of alcohol with a mixer. It runs roughly the same price as getting 4 separate drinks. On site they were selling nitrous oxide balloons. We didn’t directly see any other items being sold but we heard from others that other substances were available.
It’s recommended not to drive there yourself. There were tons of motorcycles parked outside but it was impossible to get to the center ones after everyone else arrives. It is also not safe if you were ingesting any of the previously mentioned things. For about 200 baht you can take a taxi to get back to your accommodation.
General Recommendations for the Half Moon Party
The party itself was an absolute blast! There were tons of lights going and the music was pumping. The dance floor area was very large with a combination of flooring and beach. It included at least 3 different food options as well. A few things to note to help your evening go smoothly:
- Arrive a bit early if you are wanting to get body glitter. To avoid the line, you can go to the front and do it yourself.
- The UV paint is cool but it’s an extra cost and the only area with the correct type of light is by the painting station.
- Check out the restaurant next door for cheap food and drinks that are delicious! They close early and run out quickly so it’s a great spot to pregame or take a break early in the evening.
- Take a taxi. Don’t drink and drive, it’s not worth it and the taxi is cheap and readily available.
- Dress however you want. We saw people in only swimsuits and then others in jeans and t-shirts. There is a pool and small beach area if you wear a swimsuit.
Overall we had a blast at the half moon party! The vibe was right and the energy was wonderful! We loved Koh Phangan and encourage everyone to plan a visit when going to Thailand.
